Music and food have always gone hand in hand, and here at Total Hits we want to keep it that way. So we’ve come up with a list of cafes and restaurants providing great food AND live music on their menus. As Shakespeare so eloquently put it, “If music be the food of love, play on…..”
The Balmoral HotelLocated in Victoria Park, the Balmoral Hotel has some tasty food on offer as well as live music on the weekends. Look out for James Wilson and his acoustic cover sets on Fridays between 8 pm and 11 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays come a bit earlier to catch the other up and coming local acts starting at 5pm. |
The Bar OrientBar Orient is a vibrant pub situated on High Street in Freo. With a number of great meals and exceptional live music every day of the week, it’s easy to see why this pub is such a hit. On Mondays catch James Wilson’s great live sets, and on Tuesdays Mick Nayer hits the stage. Wednesdays and Thursdays bring Karaoke and Open Mic night respectively, while Fridays feature an array of talented local musos. Saturdays bring Better Days, a solid cover group who always get the gig going, and on Sundays the winner of Open Mic Night takes the spotlight. |
Black Tom’sSituated in West Perth, Black Toms is a great little spot to go for a couple of after work drinks and a bite to eat. Make sure you visit on Thursdays after 5pm to catch Ben Merito performing his upbeat and original acoustic tunes. Pastas happen to be $10 as well, so for a chilled out Thursday evening with some groovy live music, try it out. |
The Brook Garden RestaurantThe Italian influenced Brook Garden Restaurant is a fantastic place to go and have a quiet meal in a beautiful location. Situated in The Hills, The Brook Garden Restaurant prides itself on reducing its carbon footprint by providing such things as ‘Antipodes Water’the first premium water brand certified as being carbon neutral. They also have live music every Sunday between 12:30 and 3:30 pm with a number of talented acoustic acts coming out to play. |
The Charles HotelLast year The Charles Hotel won AHA’s award for ‘Best Live Entertainment Venue in Western Australia’ this is a fantastic place for good food and better music. Every night has a different theme, starting with jazz on Mondays, blues on Tuesdays and different local and international acts filling in the rest of the week. Whatever you’re in to, there is a high chance its on offer at the Charles Hotel. |
The Dizzy Witch CafeFound in the heart of Northbridge, The Dizzy Witch is a lovely little place to enjoy a great coffee over breakfast or lunch. The café is Wifi enabled; making it a perfect for business types looking for a quiet little place to do some work. Go visit on Sundays between 9:30 and 11:30 to catch Dave McCann’s Blues and Jazz sessions, because there is nothing quite like breakfast and some Blues. |
The Ess BarLocated in the Subiaco Village just off Hay Street, the Ess Bar is a great venue for a few drinks out with friends. Although the crowd is a little older on Fridays and Saturday nights, the atmosphere is great! Bands such as Blue Hornet, Peace and Love and Flavor are regulars, playing Friday and Saturday nights until late. |
The Foundry Pub and GrillWith a design reminiscent of an old Australian Steelworks, The Foundry is a great place for young people to get together and party the night away. With punk rock cover band SideFX playing on Thursdays and pop rock cover band Crave playing on Fridays, expect to hear great songs from the last decade or so. On Saturdays come see three beautiful and talented singers as Lady Penelope hits the stage. Then on Sundays wind down with Karin Page’s acoustic session, in which you’ll catch covers of popular songs as well as a few of her own. |
The Indi BarRegarded as one of the best live music venues in Perth, The Indi Bar has had phenomenal acts rock out the house over the years. Nothing has changed either; The Scarborough based pub is still bringing in some of the best live acts WA has to offer. The Sunshine Brothers have put on epic shows every Sunday through Winter, and things are looking pretty damn good for Summer! Reggae rockers Dilip n the Davs start on the 21st of August, and solid blues/funk act Vdelli begin playing every Friday. Indi Bar is an amazing night out in terms of music; however it does fall a little short in terms of décor and food. |
Ironbark Brewery
They have won numerous awards in the International Beer Awards, including two silvers last year for their Cheery Ale and the Debilitator brew. They also have live music to enjoy, with a number of different bands playing each month. The Leisure InnIf you ever find yourself in Rockingham and feel like a good night out, look no further than the Leisure Inn. Claiming to be the “Premier entertainment centre south of Fremantle,” there is something at the Leisure Inn for everybody. With live rock music on Friday nights from Barcodeand acoustic sessions on Saturday and Sunday by various artists, this is a great spot to spend the weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Perth. |
Macc Coffee BarThe recently opened Macc Bar on Blinco Street is a fantastic addition to Freo’s coffee scene. With a spacious venue perfect for functions and a friendly and efficient staff, Macc has to be one of the better coffee spots in town. Macc is a little different though: With live music on Friday nights (after 5 pm) and a solid menu to select from, Macc truly has something for anyone. Check out their woodfired pizza night on Fridays, the food and live music is the perfect combo to start of your weekend. Currently on at the Macc: The acclaimed Xave Brown is playing Friday nights, and if your lucky, you may even catch Mister & Sunbird, who make special appearances from time to time. |
Miss Maud’s RestaurantCome and try some Swedish delicacies at Miss Maud’s Restaurant on Murray Street in Perth. They are open every day of the year and with 65 different dishes on offer it is not hard to see why the restaurant does so well. Every evening and Sunday lunch come in to hear some live traditional Swedish music, guaranteeing an interesting and fun dining experience for the whole family. |
The Moon and SixpenceWith the claim of being the “CBD’s only beer garden fronting a major street,” the Moon and Sixpence has been Perth’s go-to places for good British Pub food. With live music on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, it’s a great place to enjoy a couple of drinks and a bite to eat while listening to the acts on offer. |
The Naked Fig CafeFound right on the beach in Swanbourne, the Naked Fig Café is a truly beautiful location to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. With stunning sunset views and great food, it’s a wonder that this place is not fully booked every day. Try and catch Masina Miller and her jazz sessions on Saturday nights between 6:30 and 9:30 for a wonderful dining experience. |
The Norfolk Basement LoungeThe Norfolk Basement Lounge is slowly but surely becoming one of Fremantle’s best spots for live music. Located on the corner of South Terrace and Norfolk Street, this is a must see spot for those on the hunt for awesome live acts. While the Norfolk Hotel provides great pub grub and a good atmosphere, the Basement is the true star of the show. The Norfolk Basement Lounge has some stellar line-ups for the rest of the year, and are currently providing live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. One such band is the WAMi winning Kill Devil Hills, who have done a number of gigs there during the course of the year, and are doing a few more in November. Make sure to try and catch the Movember Benefit Gig on the 17th of November as the line-up is EPIC! The Ocean One BarThe Ocean One Bar is a surfers paradise, with surfing memorabila draped over the walls and extremely cool live music, this bar has managed to stay true to Scarborough’s surfing culture.With music five nights a week from Wednesday to Sunday (They are starting to do Mondays and Tuesdays in Summer) there is something here for everyone. On Wednesday it is Brazilliant Night with the Brazilian Connection. Check out guitar guru Domenic Zurzolo on Thursday nights, then settle down for a soulful Saturday night as Odette Mercy and her Soul Atomics take centre stage. |
On the TerraceClaremont’s On the Terrace is a snazzy joint that’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With a great Tapas and cocktail menu it’s a good place to catch up with work colleagues for a few drinks. On Friday and Saturday evenings after 7:00Tairyn Griggs plays some smooth and soulful jazz to keep you company. |
Palais 85Previously known as the Oyster Bar, Palais 85is one of the most beautiful restaurants south of the river. As Palais is Perth’s only six star restaurant, expect fantastic international cuisine in a lush and luxurious setting. On Sunday evenings there is a live jazz band featuring Shamina as the lead vocalist, so if you really feel like spoiling your partner, Palias 85 will do the trick. |
The Publican Bar and CafeThe Publican Bar and Café is a good place to enjoy a drink without the chaos and crowds that comes with some of Perth’s other pubs or clubs. Found in Victoria Park, The Publican has decent food and some cracking live entertainment. Wednesdays are open mic night featuring some of Perth’s up and coming talent, and every Friday Gerry Azor and his band rock the night away. Saturdays feature a range of Perth’s musicians such as Al Pithers, and on Sundays after 3pm you can come and relax to the soft, succulent sounds of Tom Fisher. |
Ribaudo’s RistoranteComo-based Ribaudo’s is a beautiful spot for indulging in the finer things in life. Purveyors of beautiful food and wine, Ribaudo’s is Italian cuisine at its best. This family owned restaurant also has live entertainment every Saturday night, with Joe Ribaudo crooning the night away with his eclectic mix of cabaret and jazz. The Rose and Crown HotelRecently reported in the Sunday Times Escape magazine as one of Perth’s top 20 destinations, The Rose and Crown has truly stood the test of time. Found in Guildford and providing entertainment and food for over 150 years, the Rose and Crown is getting better and better as the years go on. Every Sunday afternoon between 3pm and 7pm there are acoustic sessions held in their lush Garden restaurant-perfect for enjoying a relaxing drink in a tranquil setting. |
The Sail and AnchorLocated in lovely Freo, The Sail and Anchor is a great place to eat on the weekend and enjoy the chilled out vibe that only Freo seems to achieve. With classic rock anthems being belted out by the cover band every Friday and Saturday night after 9 pm. They have also just started up a chilled-out acoustic session on Sundays, making it a perfect way to end your weekend. |
The Saint George HotelThe Saint George Hotel in Innaloo has a great range of discounts and entertainment on offer, such as their “Mum’s eat free on Mondays” deal. If you are looking for some great live music visit the Saint on Sunday evenings to catch the Howie Morgan Project. Regarded as one of WA’s best live acts, Howie Morgan and his band will definitely put you in a good mood for the week ahead. |
The Subiaco HotelUndoubtedly one of Perth’s more popular hotels, The Subiaco Hotel is one place that consistently brings out the who’s who in Perth. Found in the heart of trendy Subiaco, expect fantastic food in a suave environment while listening to two great live acts. Alternating every Saturday night are Eclectic and the Freddie Grigson Quartet-both playing some soulful jazz. For a romantic and soulful night out, head to Subiaco and get treated like royalty. |
The Wild Fig CafeA lovely little spot in Scarborough right by the beach,the Wild Fig Café provides quite a range of live music to listen to. On Tuesday nights you can listen to Nadah Lokah playing the Sitar while you enjoy a tasty curry. Wednesdays are also great for that quiet mid-week beer, with Sean O’Neil’s acoustic sessions setting the vibe. Every Friday resident Jazz band the Larrikins take the helm and provide a great romantic setting Then wind down your weekend with the soothing sounds of the Nightingale Jazz Trio playing every Sunday night. |
